George Melies Tripto the moonshine In the early 1900s Georges Melies introduced his film A Trip To The Moon to audiences in France. This film, when first seen by viewers at this time, was jawdropping. Melies who happened to be a magician, and illusionist before becoming a filmmaker, made one of the first-ever narratives in interrogation picture history. Similarily throughout Trip To The Moon and many of his later films, Melies, who withal worked in theatre, took full advantage of what is known as Mise-en-scene. In Trip to the Moon Melies created a world to which no one had ever seen on film, and utilized all the characteristics to which mise-en-scene is based upon. In probably using only one camera for his film, Melies had to basically film in a theater room setting. Almost every shot of the fil m is a long shot which is taken from the audiences point-of-view angle. There were no close-ups in Trip To The Moon no skirt shots, or handheld shots..etc. Throughout the film the same angle and longshot is used, however that does not take away from the film, knowing that he could only utilize this shot, Melies went on to first Decorate his set like no one had ever seen. For instance in the beginning of the film we can see what looks like an copiousness of individuals who seemed to be gathered in what resembles a castle of some sort. This is where the so-called wizards have gathered and have figured out to take their trip to the moon. The quest scene shows us a large cannon type figure, an extremely large cannon to be exact, very abnormal looking. The concept of space croak at this time was unheard of and this being a silent film, allows us to realize that just by looking at this contraption that this is how they are spillage to get to the moon. It is by these elements that Mel ies utilizes mise-en-scen, and in other cases such as the rocky hills of the moon, the bullet shaped space-ship that encapsulates the wizards and sends them on their trip. The costumes of the actors that are used in the film also give us the feeling that these folks are not from our time, but we can identify with their wizardly presence.

Ultimately, the obsession with the vulture eye is irrational and is by no means a reasonable motive to murder an innocent man.The murderers heightened sensitivity to sound is yet another piece of evidence that proves his insanity. He says, Above all the sense of audience acute. I heard all things in heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell. What that means to him, we may not know, but to a listener he is just proving himself crazy. He first encounters the loud sound of the old mans beating heart while he is still alive in his bed on the night of the murder, I knew that sound well too.It was the beating of the old mans heart. This is a clear display of the murderers extreme guilt and paranoia. Not only do I firmly believe this murderer should be sentenced to many years jail for the crime he committed, it is in his best interest to regain his sanity if possible through some psychological therapy program.

Extract One: Explore how the author presents Hyde in this extract Essay

Hyde is presented as an ugly, deformed creature in the first extract, who seems to be naturally evil and causes others to feel so much abomination towards him. His actions instantly show his evil character when he trampled sedately over the childs body. The verb, trampled shows his aggressions and his intent to harm the child. It was intelligibly deliberate. However, it overly uses an adverb calmly which is an oxymoron because it contradicts the violent motion of trampling. This oxymoron shows how he is detrimenting the child with no care, sympathy or regret. His calm composure with no signs of regret continues as Mr Hyde remained perfectly peaceful and made no resistance.Using perfectly before cool emphasizes that he showed no care or remorse at all, although he has all the way hurt the girl, who was screaming. It portrays Hyde as very heartless and evil, particularly as he had trampled on an innocent girl, who would have not created any motive for Hyde to hurt her. The fact t hat she was a girl makes her seem more vulnerable too, presenting Hyde as more merciless. Furthermore, his lack of speech further reveals his nonchalance and disregard to the girls pain. He does not speak at all throughout the whole of the extract, even when Enfield collared him, so is not trying to defend himself or apologize for his impish actions he shows very little care in what has happened.Hydes hideous and ugly appearance is also portrayed in the first extract. Hydes search was described as so ugly that it brought out the sweat on me like running. When saying that it was so ugly, it emphasizes how obnoxious Hydes appearance was. In addition, sweating is usually an instinctively response to something which you cannot control. The fact that by looking at Hyde, Enfield had an instinctive response to be frightened and sweat, shows how there is something contrastive about Hyde that makes the people loathe him. Enfield also described Hyde as some damned Juggernaut, presenting h im as a senseless macrocosm who is doing crazy things, with no regard to other people. The adjective, damned emphasizes the hatred Enfield felt towards him and the fact that it has a religious connection implies that the disgust was so great.Finally, the reaction of the doctor towards Hyde after he tramples on the girl shows that the hatred was instinctive. Enfield described the doctor as emotional as a bagpipe and so clearly the doctor must not be affected too much by the screaming girl, especially as the girl was not seriously injured at all. However, he turned flush and white every time he looked at Hyde. It must therefore be an instinct to loathe Hyde as a usually emotionless man is feeling so much hatred towards him, although he has not done too much to hurt the doctor. In addition, the doctor also had the appetency to carry off him. This is heavily ironic as he is a doctor, who is meant to save and cure people, but has been affected so much that he wants to kill Hyde.The w ord desire emphasizes how much he wanted to kill Hyde and it felt as if it was the doctors goal. This shows that the detestation is clearly an instinct as it would never be a characteristic of a doctor to want to kill someone so much. Hyde had been so hateful that a group of respectable people had been changed so much into becoming animalistic with desire to kill someone. SustainabilityI hadnt considered the inter-plays that exist between the social, environmental and economic aspects of sustainability, I subscribe to the three pillars of sustainability (figure 1), that is each has an impact but they are independent of each other.Figure 1 Three pillars of sustainabilitySource Wallis, A. (2011) p.596.Class discussions and research enabled me to leave the interactions between these pillars and I started to contemplate sustainability more than as an interactive process aligned with the three spheres of sustainability (figure 2) which I interpret as being of equal vastness and that is you connect them all you will achieve sustainability.Figure 2 Three spheres of sustainabilitySource Wallis, A. I reflected on what I could do to reduce my footprint an all-electric house, jo b with extensive car travel and I am a meat eater. What future was I release my children and what could I intensify? I could reduce my consumption of red meat, saving a planet, however the economic and social impact on our farmers for me outweighs the impact on the planet after all that is their livelihood. On reflection I think for me it is both, unless you hold strong beliefs one charge or the other I believe we hover in between we all interpret data differently based on our starting assumptions and values and are less likely to change our worldview.In particular I reflected on Indigenous Australians who hold to a traditional value, the land is sacred to them by holding this view they have a positive impact on the environment they only take what they need, they give back and believe in the tang of the land. They didnt need politicians to develop policies and legislation to make them reduce their carbon emissions or to look after the land. I am faced with the dilemma of how we as a nation can make a difference it appears that I have more questions than I have answers.Sustainability phasesMost organisations are slow adapters to change and usually do so as a result of compliance activities being enforced upon them due to new or reformed legislation, a good example of this is OH&S legislation in Australia. Are we doing enough through education to ensure the next generation of leaders will consider sustainability more than a buzz script? We have created a throwawaysociety, landfill is becoming scarce and yet our propensity to have the latest gadget is not decreasing, locally, across the nation and internationally we need to look at ways in which we can recycle or reuse the materia ls on a large scale that has a positive impact on the planet.Another light bulb moment came when we researched companies that we believe are sustainable and consider what phase of sustainability they are in. We looked at Acciona ability and concluded that they are in sustaining corporation phase as they are paving the way in sustainability. Not all would agree as there are people in Ballarat who are opposed to wind farms and their worldviews are strong in the belief the turbines are more harmful to your health and nothing will persuade them otherwise. This re-emphasises that our assumptions and values in many ways holds much stronger than any evidence that may be presented to us that may refute our views.My expeditionI have discussed and debated the values I hold and how by changing one small thing we can make a difference to our ecological footprint. If everyone made one small change in their lifestyle it may grow into something that will impact positively on the planet e.g. Eart h minute which started as a national event and is now a global phenomenon. Ive planted a vegetable garden, my meat consumption has decreased and I actively shop for locally produced vegetables and fruit. I have moved my thinking to that of the bullseye model (figure 3) which shows that the human system, which is broken up into social and economic systems, must hang in within the capacity of the social system to be sustainable.
